Your potential is your power

Your potential only becomes power when you're aware of it and you act on it. Why focus beats energy, and doubt holds dreams back.

A long time back, I wrote one line in my journal.

Your potential is your power.

I've reread it more times than I can count. Mostly on the days I doubted myself.

It took me a while to see the part I kept skipping. Potential isn't power on its own. It becomes power when you're aware of it. And when you act on it.

The story we tell ourselves

Everyone wants the same things. Reach our goals. Be financially free. Be fit in body and mind. Have relationships that work. Live a life that feels full.

Most people believe that kind of life happens to a selected few. The talented ones. The lucky ones.

It doesn't.

Read the stories of people who built something great. So many of them started with literally nothing. No money. No obvious talent for what they were doing. Somewhere along the way, something changed.

Not their situation. Their thinking.

The quiet trap

Most of us live in the middle. Not failing. Not flying.

The cafe stays an idea. The business stays a someday.

We tell ourselves we'll start when we're ready. But if you don't believe in yourself, why would anyone else?

The loud trap

Then there's the opposite problem. Plenty of energy, pointed everywhere.

One thing doesn't work out, so we hop to the next. A new idea. A new course. A new niche.

Sunlight is everywhere, and it can't burn a sheet of paper. Hold a magnifying glass under it and it will. A laser cuts through steel for the same reason: everything on one point.

Energy isn't the problem. Focus is.

One question worth asking

What is my strength, and am I putting my time there?

You become the best at what you do when you work at the edge of your strength. Not when you spread yourself across ten things you're average at.

Choose your focus. Choose your niche. Then give it the time it deserves.

Would you drive that car?

Imagine you don't trust your car's brakes. Would you drive it? Maybe. Slowly. Holding back the whole way.

That's what doubt does to a dream. You never stop, but you never really go either.

Believing in your potential isn't wishful thinking. It's what lets you take the action that brings the results. Even when they show up later than you'd like.

The line I'm leaving you with

Your only limits are the ones you set yourself.

Believe in your potential. Back your strength. And don't let self-doubt hold you captive.

Whatever matters to you, start there.
